Youth Education Programs

Today’s young people will inherit the challenges of a changing climate. They’re already stepping up with creativity, energy, and bold ideas. Through school programs, hands-on projects, and youth-led events, CCCDC empowers students across Door County with the knowledge and experiences they need to turn concern into action.

In all, these workshops encouraged students and community members to explore environmental themes through creativity, personal expression, and collaboration.

Earth + Climate Arts Lab

Presented by Climate Change Coalition of Door County and Peninsula School of Art

The Earth + Climate Arts Lab is designed to ignite a deep appreciation for the natural world, blending artistic exploration with earth and climate science. Students experiment with a variety of art materials while honing their skills in painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture - both individually and collaboratively. The program culminates in a showcase celebrating students' creative work.

The Arts Lab is led by Jill Newman, a dedicated art educator who has taught preschool through graduate school throughout LA County, with her very first classes at PenArt over 25 years ago! She holds a BS in Art Education from UW-Madison, an MFA from CalArts, and a Teaching Fellowship from the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, CA.

Interested in joining us? Check out our upcoming after-school classes open to Gibraltar 3rd-5th grade students and daytime classes for Door County Homeschool students ages 8 - 13! Registration is open and full scholarships are available. All classes are held at Peninsula School of Art. More information on events page.

PROGRAM HISTORY:

The Earth + Climate Arts Labs began through the generous startup support of 100+ Women Who Care Door County and our creative partnership with Peninsula School of Art.

What started as a pilot program connecting art and environmental education has now grown into an annual program.
